Hammocks & High Tea
When it comes to preparing meals, you go the whole organic nine yards—handmade cheese, grass-fed beef, homegrown herbs—so give a hoot about your linens, too. Hammocks & High Tea is a Brooklyn-based line of exquisite home goods made of all-natural materials that don’t sacrifice an ounce of style. Karen Young, the brains behind the biz, was inspired by the architecture and tropical surroundings in her native Guyana. She hand-prints hemp, organic cotton and recycled paper with fetching designs—ikat chevron, Mayan triangles, intricate tiles, gate details—using water-based, solvent-free soy inks in bright, cheerful colors like coral, yellow, navy and violet. Outfit your kitchen with matching or mixed prints in the form of tea towels (that double as runners on small tables), place mats, napkins and drawer liners, all of which take you farther along that road from farm to table.
The Spice Is Right
After stocking your kitchen with tropical-inspired linens, consider spicing up your dinner too. Whip up a batch of pepper pot, Guyana’s national dish, the meat stew fired with Scotch bonnets and bittersweet cassareep, a natural cassava-based preservative that stretches your Sunday meal all week.
