Catch a Piece of Maine

Wendy Webber
Brothers Jon and Brendan Ready grew up working on their Uncle Ted’s lobster boat in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, each harvesting their own bounty of sea creatures by age nine. After earning business degrees, the brothers headed home to launch their passion project Catch a Piece of Maine. Running their company as waterfront businesses were intended, they skip the middleman and provide their fresh crustaceans directly to their customers. You don’t have to be on their schooner to feel the love: It’s palpable when you open an overnight shipment, complete with not only the goods but also a handwritten note, a map detailing the date and location where your feast was harvested, family recipes, and a DVD that gives insight into the lobstering community and way of life from their charming perspective. What's on the menu? Fresh-frozen tails so sweet they don’t even need butter; simple mouthwatering lobster rolls and full-on feasts in the form of lobster shares (four 1½ lb. hard shell lobsters, 1 lb. clams, 1 lb. mussels, 1 lb. crab claws, and four servings of homemade desserts from local purveyors). It’s been hailed as the freshest, most delicious Maine lobster. If an idyllic trip to Maine isn’t on your summer itinerary, this is the next best thing.
good catch
Maine lobstering does not use destructive methods of net fishing and bottom dragging. Catch a Piece of Maine lobster traps are designed so that small lobsters can feed and leave.
