This easygoing Nuevo Latino destino—richly decorated with amber walls, red banquettes, wood accents and gilded mirrors—really packs some sabor. Get things rolling with a tart pisco sour (or a volador, another pisco cocktail made lively with cilantro and ginger), while snacking at the bar on some plantain chips and serrano-cilantro salsa, which will pair perfectly with the ceviche à la Peruana of red snapper spiked with bright aji amarillo (a Peruvian yellow chile). The flavor parade continues with small plates like the fried empanadas and the cornmeal arepas (it’s all about the juicy pulled pork version). The kitchen has a deft hand with meats, like tender bavette steak with chimichurri, and plates—all designed to share—feature colorful garnishes and ingredients like purple Peruvian potatoes. The famed alfajores are the true star of the dessert menu and the Latin American answer to the Oreo. Be sure to get a packet to go: it comes with 12, and you’ll want to eat every single one of these butter cookies with dulce de leche filling. Just not all at once.

Only a few seats are available at the bar but the cozy corner booth near it is comfortable and provides a view of the dining room.

The bar at Destino is tiny, but next door at Pisco Latin Lounge you can enjoy a drink with cheeses, charcuterie, snacks, or tapas while waiting for your table or conversely grab a nightcap after your meal.
