Golden Gate Meats
By Sean Finney
If you think slow cooking is too much of a commitment, you’ve never been handed the key ingredients—from dry-aged meats to spice rub and fresh stock. Now, you’re in luck. Thanks to BBE, those meaty artisanal ingredients are waiting for you at the butcher counter of Golden Gate Meat in the Ferry Building. Pick one of two exclusive meat packages available only to BBE subscribers: the pork cheeks or the beef stew kit. Both come with recipe ideas and proprietary cuts (the pork is being procured especially for us), at 30% less than if you’d purchased the ingredients yourself. The dish that we cooked at home after our visit produced a rich, silky sauce filled with tender and flavorful pieces of meat, carrots, onions, and potatoes—and, yes, it was even better the next day. Golden Gate Meat was founded as a wholesaler in 1977, and now gives you the same access to local lamb, beef, game, sausages, and sauces that it has been providing to restaurants and hotels since the beginning.

Don’t pass up the prepared foods, either, like hearty chicken potpie, pastrami sandwiches, and sausage on a stick (why not?)
