James Beard Foundation's Taste America: Los Angeles—The culinary event of the season

October is here, and that time of the season is almost upon us—to get ready, get dressed up, and get yourself to the James Beard Foundation Taste America: Los Angeles benefit dinner. On Friday, October 12, at SLS Hotel, Beverly Hills, the James Beard Foundation is going all-out for an evening of unparalleled culinary pleasures, with a cocktail reception, seated dinner, and dessert reception, plus live and silent auctions. VIP tickets give you even more perks such as caviar, an express sparkling wine line, access to the exclusive after-party—and a gift bag so you can prove to yourself it wasn’t all just a dream. Best of all, BlackboardEats is giving you a chance to experience this extraordinary occasion for 30 percent off the VIP ticket price. The only catch is you have to act fast, as access to these BBE-exclusive discounted tickets is extremely limited.

Events at the James Beard House in New York are the stuff of legend—dinners where guests are invited to walk through the kitchen and bear witness as the chefs work their magic; cocktail parties spilling out into the garden, with beverages, canapés, and multiple chef stations; and literary meets where culinary enthusiasts hang with top authors of the food world. For the sixth annual Taste America, the James Beard Foundation rolls up the entire concept and takes it on the road for six weeks, enthralling a select few diners in 10 cities along the way with the best of best in American cuisine—and more.

For the lucky list of guests in Los Angeles, it all starts with a cocktail and tasting reception courtesy of Wes Avila (Guerrilla Tacos), Raphael Francois (Tesse), Mei Lin (Nightshade), Pawan Mehandro (Badmaash), and Curtis Stone (Maude). After all that, the seated three-course dinner boasts a menu created by Visiting All-Star, James Beard Award winner Andrew Camellini of The Dutch in NYC, Local All-Star Ludo Lefebvre of Trois Mec, and Host Chef Holly Jivin (The Bazaar by José Andrés, Tres).
The dessert reception that follows brings it all to an incredible finale, with creations by Margarita Manzke (République), Lincoln Carson (Bon Temps), Salt & Straw, and Mitzi Reyes (SLS Hotel). Wine Chair Mark Samosonova (Delilah) ties everything together with pairings throughout the festivities. It all adds up to a night you won’t soon forget; by the time you leave the after-party with your gift bag, you’ll already be dreaming about the next James Beard Foundation event.

Fortunately, that’s only a matter of hours away—no kidding. Michael Cimarusti and Mary Sue Milliken will be giving a demonstration at the Sur La Table farmers market Saturday morning, though you’ll have to score those tickets separately.

So lay out your best cocktail attire, and get ready for a night of lots of treats and no tricks—though plenty of magic. Just remember there are only a limited amount of these special VIP dining tickets going for 30 percent off, so seize your luck and grab your BBE Passcode stat.
