8 must-have Chicago breakfast sandwiches under $7

By Lauren Shapiro Mandel

Sure, they’re called breakfast sandwiches for a reason, but when it comes down to it, a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich is something we could eat at pretty much any time of day. There are countless variations out there, and although classic is sometimes best, here are eight in Chicago that we’re already craving for tomorrow morning.

Leghorn Chicken Café ($5.50)
For you early birds, the Leghorn Chicken Café opens bright and early at 7 a.m. Beat the crowds (though still get in line) for their classic and delicious Southern-style breakfast. The menu is small and to the point; we recommend the biscuit and egg sandwich (pictured above). Customize yours with local artisanal Cheddar cheese, hickory-smoked ham, and more.

The 3rd Coast Café ($5)
This place might moonlight as a wine bar, but boy do they make a mean breakfast. You’d be satisfied with anything off their menu morning, noon, or night—and we’d choose their breakfast sandwich for any one of those meals. For just $5, you get thick-cut sourdough bread topped with grilled eggs and Cheddar cheese.

Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken ($4.29)
Our favorite thing about the breakfast at Do-Rite Donuts & Chicken? It’s served all day. There are three different breakfast sandwich options on the menu, and our favorite is the one with the applewood-smoked bacon. The bacon is joined by scrambled eggs, Cheddar cheese, and mayo on a brioche bun for the perfect combination of flavors.

Manny’s Deli ($4.95)
Normally we’d go for a tried-and-true pastrami sandwich at this Chicago institution, but for a real deal breakfast, go with the breakfast sandwich. How do we like ours? With that famous pastrami, of course. If pastrami isn’t your meat of choice, you can choose from bacon, sausage, and other options, as well. We’re judging you only slightly for not liking pastrami.

Goddess and the Baker ($6.99)
Goddess and The Baker is the new kid on the block in the Goddess family, and they’re already doing things right. Get in here before 11 a.m. for their “Morning Sandwich,” sesame-semolina bread filled with scrambled eggs, Cheddar cheese, and your choice of meat, plus avocado and tomatillo sauce. Soon, you won’t be able to start your morning without one.

Chicago Bagel Authority ($6.50)
You want breakfast in Chicago? You better go early, especially to this always-packed breakfast chain. Sandwiches are their thing, so there are more than a few breakfast versions to choose from, but our favorite is the huevos rancheros. You’ll be full for days from this one: ham, eggs, pepper Jack cheese, and jalapeños piled on a plain bagel.

Brobagel ($5.99)
With the name of Brobagel, it’s clear that bagels are their specialty, and you could easily walk in and out of here with a simple bagel and cream cheese, but you’d really be missing out. Instead, enjoy one of their freshly-baked bagels with a savory spin: spinach, artichoke, eggs, and Manchego cheese. You could also go classic bacon, egg, and cheese for just $4.99.

Publican Quality Meats ($6)
You can’t talk meat in Chicago without bringing Publican Quality Meats into the conversation, especially when the conversation is about breakfast meats. Their version of a breakfast sandwich is classic but elevated, topping off their buttermilk biscuit with a fried egg, American cheese, and of course, their incredible bacon.
