An incredible restaurant in a hotel? Here are 9 in Chicago

By Lauren Mandel

If you’re someone who avoids ordering room service meals at all costs, we have some good news. Hotels are popping up in cities across the country featuring incredible in-house restaurants as main attractions—and Chicago is no exception. So whether you’re debating where to stay or just wondering where to grab your next meal, here are nine hotel restaurants in Chicago that will let you find your culinary happy place—and forget about whether that room service cheeseburger is worth the extra calories.

Nico Osteria in Thompson Chicago
With its name regularly showing up on lists of Chicago’s best restaurants, it may come as a surprise that this swank spot on the Gold Coast is actually located inside a hotel—the trendy Thompson Chicago, to be exact. Nico Osteria is known for its seafood, but our favorite meal served at this hot spot is brunch. Since they specialize in seafood, don’t miss the crab scramble, filled with fresh shellfish and finished with Calabrian chile oil.

Ema in Hyatt Place River North
You have two enticing options when you walk into Ema: be seated in their airy main dining room to enjoy a full menu of Mediterranean dishes, or head toward the back of the restaurant for the quick-serve café called Rotisserie Ema, where everything is ready to be taken to-go. You’ll no doubt be satisfied with either, but if you have the time, take a table in the dining room to try out (all of) the different spreads and the house-made falafel.

Elaine’s Coffee Call in Hotel Lincoln
Don’t dismiss this spot as just another coffee shop. Situated inside the lobby of the funky Hotel Lincoln, Elaine’s Coffee Call is the perfect place to set up shop for a day of work. Sip on a hot La Colombe coffee, enjoy a freshly baked scone from neighboring Perennial Virant, and soak up the cozy feel of the shop itself.

NoMi Lounge in Park Hyatt
Located inside the ultra-chic Park Hyatt, NoMi Lounge overlooks the Magnificent Mile while serving some of the best food in the area. Don’t let the prestige intimidate you; the lounge is more distinct than the main restaurant, and its menu is actually filled with affordable salads, sandwiches, and small plates. Can’t-miss choices include the tuna tartare, turkey melt, and grilled flatbread.

Pump Room in PUBLIC Chicago
Don’t be surprised if you spot a celebrity or two the next time you visit Pump Room, the main restaurant inside PUBLIC Chicago. A Chicago institution for decades, it was recently renovated, and you’ll want to spend a few minutes gawking at the décor before moving on to the food. Whether you’re coming for brunch, lunch, or dinner, the menus of elevated American classics, drawn up by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, all offer equally delicious experiences.

Dolce Italian

Dolce Italian in The Godfrey Hotel
We’re going to go ahead and say it: Dolce Italian, the Miami import located in The Godfrey Hotel, might have the most amazing lunch deal we’ve ever seen in the city of Chicago. For just $10, you get a glass of wine or a beer, plus either a full-size pizza or pasta dish. You may head back to work with a slight buzz, but for just $10, how can you say no?

Kamehachi in Westin River North
If the concept of hotel sushi gives you pause, we get it, but Kamehachi is the real deal. They operate a few locations around Chicago, and this one happens to be in the lobby of the Westin River North along the Chicago River. At Kamehachi, you’ll find everything you love and expect from a classic sushi restaurant: fresh sashimi, classic maki rolls, and most importantly, an extensive sake menu.

Sable in Hotel Palomar
Sable is recognized as one of the best whiskey bars in the country—what more is there to say? Well, you can also expect a menu of amazing food from this restaurant located inside the chic Hotel Palomar. The snacks section of the menu can easily turn out a full meal, with rich bites like deviled eggs and truffle fries, but you don’t want to miss the flatbreads or the braised pork cheeks in the main section, either.

Café Des Architectes in the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower
Transport yourself away from the hustle and bustle of the Magnificent Mile and over to Parisian paradise at this destination in River North. Inside the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower, Café Des Architectes feels like a 21st-century version of a café in the city of lights. Don’t skip the savory dishes, because they’re delicious on their own, but their modern take on Baked Alaska is something you won’t soon forget.
