By David Farley

Live Music? Check. Great food? Check. Inspired cocktails? Double check. When you’re having a night out, why not satisfy more than one sense at the same time by grazing on good food, sipping a well-concocted cocktail, and listening to some head-bobbing tunes? We’ve got eight of the best spots in the city to do just that.

Apotheke
This Chinatown bar has your remedy when you need a fix of quality live music and inspired cocktails. Nearly every night there’s a dose of mambo, New Orleans jazz, or R&B while the bartenders mix up drinks using herbs, beets, and kale juice, among other ingredients that will make you feel like you're boozing healthily.

Barbés
Started by French expats, this popular Park Slope cocktail bar has long attracted great musicians to its diminutive back room. Regulars sip Negronis, martinis, or Bordeaux while jazz, Caribbean-accented tunes, and even opera are performed. Be sure to plan a night around the bar’s frequent and long-running Slavic Soul Party, for a Balkan brass band that heats up the space.

Bar Lunatico
You need not be a lunatic to love this Bed-Stuy bar, which puts on everything from Afro-jazz to Latin music to a comforting weekend gospel brunch, while patrons sip artisanal cocktails and eat saffron-laced squid, bowls of gumbo, and an excellent banh mi sandwich.

City Winery
Everyone from the Cowboy Junkies to Prince have performed at this small SoHo venue where members make and age their very own vino on the premises. As the name would suggest, there’s a great list of wines here, but there are also superb snacks to boot—try one of the flatbreads or duck tacos. Check out the calendar to find out if one of your favorite performers will be hitting that stage here soon.

Bar Belly
From the owners of beloved Leadbelly comes Bar Belly, a Lower East Side spot that features live jazz most nights and DJ's on the weekends. Guests can pick at inspired small plates; menu highlights include bacon-spiked roasted Brussels sprouts, lamb sliders, and for the vegan in you: The Impossible sliders.

Can’t get enough of suspender-wearing, waxed-mustached mixologists? Really, who can? Pull up a stool at this popular Smith Street spot on Wednesday evenings, when you can sip on well-crafted cocktails—do yourself a favor and get the Oaxacan old-fashioned—and listen to live jazz.

Fine & Rare
Step back seven or eight decades into this retro-cool spot in Midtown to treat your ears, eyes, and palate to a sensational evening of live music, most of which leans toward old-timey jazz and blues. From the owners of the Flatiron Room, Fine & Rare serves up some fine fare in the form of yuzo miso ginger–glazed scallops, tempura oysters, and plus-sized steaks. They've also added lunch service to their weekday roster and on weekends, don’t miss the jazz brunch.

Harlem Nights
This Harlem bar puts some serious funk in the food—and in your ear drums. Blues and soul musicians take the stage nightly as guests graze on heart-warming comfort fare like beer-battered chicken nuggets, hardwood-smoked chicken, wings, and sweet potato fries.
