The spirit of Sydney comes to NoHo

By Zoe Bullock

On this sunny corner of Broadway and Bleecker, Coco & Cru is bringing Australian café culture to Manhattanites. The minds behind hot spot Sauce have decked out this fresh space in wood tables, white tile, and yellow accents to set the scene for their vision of Sydney. “Heart starters” to spike your flat white? Check. Breakfast all day? You bet. And all that done up with only grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and organic eggs? Done.

The menu is built on a sturdy foundation of old-school Australian comfort foods: salads, egg dishes, sandwiches, and grain bowls, all served with a health-supportive and environmentally conscious twist. The widely instagrammed avocado toast and green savory bowl, a dish which combines virtually all of the superfoods—broccoli, kale, spinach, ancient grains, avocado, and a poached egg—both make for a lot more than a pretty picture. They also deliciously embody Coco & Cru’s tagline: “Fresh. Simple.”
To add a nice-and-naughty kick to your anytime brunch, be sure to order the Woodrow cocktail, made with fresh-pressed apple juice and Four Roses Bourbon. No worries—you can still feel good about it because it was finished in a juicer just a few moments ago. In addition to the cocktail menu, Coco & Cru’s drink menu offers a selection of both Australian and international beers and wines, along with 13 coffee options, including a caffeine-free Golden Grind turmeric latte, Toby’s Estate nitro cold brew, and your favorite espresso-based concoction, to which you can add a small shot of something stronger if you’re feeling so inclined. What time is it in Sydney right now anyway?
