Mr. Pollo

By Marcia Gagliardi

A back door, a mysterious curtain—you might think it’s a nightclub, but no, it’s Mr. Pollo’s dining room. The restaurant is small with two seats at a rickety counter overlooking the kitchen, and four tables total tucked into the corners. While you can order a few dishes a la carte, the real draw here is Chef Manny Torres Gimenez's 4-course dinner, regarded among the most affordable and inventive tasting menus in the city. Expect the line to include the usual suspects: Missionites, downwinders from Noe, Potrero, and Bernal, and the occasional tourist.
