The Slaw Dogs —Your days of hot dog indecision are over

By Courtney Hong

Slaw Dogs
Fret no more: The days of hot dog indecision are over. The Slaw Dogs dishes solid gourmet dogs (veggie options are available), sausage, brats, and burgers with an international twist. And with the birth of the third baby in the Slaw Dog family—a.k.a. the new Duarte branch—there are more topping and location choices than ever. If you like to freestyle, build your own with 10 sauces (we like the spicy sesame aioli or curry ketchup), and over 25 toppings, including garlic salsa verde, sauteed mushrooms, jalapeno bacon, and kimchi. Or if you’re throwing down, pony up to one of the original “Slaw Dogs” creations. Here, anything goes—unless you’re under 12-years-old and mum says no.

If you like down-home southern fare check out the Mac & Cheese Dog—a quarter pound of Vienna beef topped with cheese and macaroni (duh) that’s suffused with Dijon mustard and complemented nicely by crisp bacon plus grilled onions. Hallelujah, indeed. Feeling breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Put your tender heart in a blender (as Eve 6 belts) and face the bully—a monstrous tortilla-wrapped TNT Super Dog bursting with deep-fried Vienna all-beef pieces smothered with beer chili, melted cheddar, tender pastrami, thick bacon, skin-on fries, grilled onions, and fried egg added. It’s a big mouthful to say—let alone eat. Last but not least, if you're looking for spice try the O.G. Thai Slaw Dog, where chicken sausage elopes with crunchy, peanut-punched cilantro-carrot slaw.

the crowd

Singles, couples, third-wheelers, and families with kids will find a seat at one of the sleek, clean wood counters or tables (indoors or out). Those without a bedtime can linger over ESPN, another IPA, Pinot Grigio, or a satisfying milkshake.
