This River North restaurant celebrates a variety of Asian cuisines in new and inventive ways with an award-winning menu from Chef Jesse DeGuzman. Choose from dishes like the crispy and sweet Brussels sprout salad and the escolar nigiri, a slice of fresh fish drizzled with delicate truffle oil. BBE diners can choose one of three complimentary and off-the-menu specialties including: the king crab–salmon bundle made with minzua (a Japanese water green); avocado and a crisp lotus root chip; a creamy lobster and albacore sashimi filled with chives, spicy mayo, and lotus root chip; or the escolar poke made with chiles, red onion, cucumber, kaiware (radish sprouts), and a wonton chip. Sunda’s staff is impeccably on target, with helpful tips for navigating the menus and ordering the right proportions of food for the table, as well as executing the chef’s vision in presenting the dishes.

eye for design
You can tell that a lot of thought went into the design, with waiter stands placed at the center of the room (with their own tap built in!), making service seamless. Despite the dark lighting and sleek feel, it’s the small touches like flowers and earthy decor that make Sunda inviting and comfortable.
